Drinks and Beverages

With just three ingredients and a few simple steps, you will have a classic Moscow Mule recipe. This cocktail is perfect for those hot summer nights, but it's also great during the holiday season, thanks to the strong ginger flavor.

What You'll Need to Make a Moscow Mule

With just a few ingredients, it's essential to use good quality ingredients. If you are not sure which vodka or ginger beer you prefer, I suggest doing some taste-testing.

Here's what you'll need to make a classic Moscow Mule cocktail:

  • Ginger Beer: We all have a different preference about which ginger beer tastes the best, so I would go with your favorite. After a few taste-tasting, my favorite is Reed's Premium Ginger Brew (Jamaican style). I like this one because it has a perfect combination of sweetness and spiciness.
  • Vodka: As I mentioned before, it's essential to use good quality vodka and avoid the cheapest bottle in the store. My recommendation is Tito's vodka.
  • Freshly-Squeezed Lime Juice: I always use freshly-squeezed lime juice. It just tastes so much better than the bottled lime juice.
This recipe calls for lots of ice. I use regular ice cubes. Also, you can add garnishes, like lime wedges and/or a spring of fresh mint.

Do I Need a Copper Mug For This Recipe?

The short answer to this question is no, you don't. I made this cocktail numerous times in a regular glass, and it tastes delicious as well.

How to Make a Moscow Mule

For exact measurements, take a look at the recipe card.
  1. Fill the mug halfway with the ice cubes.
  2. Add lime juice and vodka.
  3. Top off with ginger beer and stir.
Voila! You have the easiest yet so delicious cocktail. You can add garnish - lime wedge and/or spring of mint if you prefer.

Moscow Mule Variations

There are so many Moscow Mule variations. Some of the classic variations where you swap the vodka for a different liquor:

  • Mexican Mule: swap vodka for tequila.
  • Kentucky Mule: swap vodka for bourbon.
  • Dark & Stormy: swap vodka for dark rum.
  • Gin Gin Mule: swap vodka for gin.
