Drinks and Beverages

This Iced Dalgona Latte is not a traditional recipe but my take on it. With simple ingredients and minimal equipment, you will have this frothy drink in no time.

What You'll Need to Make a Dalgona Latte

Dalgona latte ingredients.

Key Ingredients:
  • Instant coffee: I used Nescafe Classico (dark roast), but feel free to use any instant coffee you prefer.
  • Sugar: For this recipe, I used light brown sugar. It will give the dalgona foam rich and velvety flavor and texture.
  • Water: We need a little water to dissolve the coffee and sugar.
  • Milk: The whole milk will work great for this recipe. For ingredient substitution, please refer to the Recipe Variations and Ingredients Substitution.
  • Ice: To make this iced dalgona latte, we will need some ice cubes.

What is Dalgona Coffee Latte

Dalgona Coffee Latte is another name for whipped coffee. To make this delicious drink, you will need ice cubes, your favorite milk, and dalgona coffee foam.

The dalgona name comes from Korean candy, sponge candy (honeycomb sugar candy). Its texture is very similar, with many tiny bubbles.

So technically, in this version of the iced dalgona latte, we are not using the dalgona candy.

Why You'll Love this Recipe

  • Flavor: This dalgona latte has such a rich and delicious coffee flavor. Dalgona foam has a strong coffee flavor, yet it’s sweet. What I love about this latte is that the dalgona foam does not dissolve immediately but slowly as you sip and stir your latte.
  • Texture: The texture of dalgona foam reminds us of the dalgona candy, which is how it got its name.
  • Easy to make: In just 5 minutes, you will have this fantastic and fancy drink at home.
  • Customizable: Dalgona latte requires only a few simple ingredients, but you can always customize it per your choice. Please refer to the Recipe Variations and Ingredients Substitution section.

First, we need to make a dalgona coffee foam.
  1. Add sugar, instant coffee, and hot water to a mixer bowl.
  2. Mix on high until strong peaks form – about 2-3 minutes.
To make a dalgona latte:
  1. Add ice and milk to a glass.
  2. Spoon a dalgona coffee foam on your milk. Serve immediately.
The dalgona foam won't dissolve immediately but slowly as you stir your drink. This is especially the case if you are making an iced dalgona latte.

Recipe Variations and Ingredients Substitution

  • Use different sugar: My preference is light brown sugar, but feel free to use regular white sugar.
  • Use different milk: You can use any milk of your choice. Please note that the flavor might differ. To make the latte extra creamy, use half-and-half. Dairy-free options work as well.
  • Make it hot: To make a hot dalgona latte, omit the ice and add hot milk to your cup.
  • Optional add-ins: To fully customize this dalgona latte recipe, feel free to add some vanilla bean extract. Add a shot of baileys or Kahlua to your milk to make an adult beverage.
  • Optional toppings: Some optional toppings are chocolate shavings, caramel syrup, cocoa powder, etc.

Expert Tips and Tricks

  • Use instant coffee: I highly recommend instant coffee for this recipe. The regular grounded coffee beans won't work. They won't dissolve.
  • Keep mixing: It might seem that the peaks won't form but give it a few minutes, and you will have the most delicious and creamy dalgona foam.
  • Use a stand mixer (or a hand-held mixer): Although you could make the dalgona foam by hand (using a wire whisk), I highly recommend using a mixer. It will be much faster. It takes only 2-3 minutes, compared to at least 10 minutes if you make it using a wire whisk.

How to Store

The dalgona coffee foam in this recipe is enough for two servings. You can either halve the ingredients for the dalgona foam or store it in the fridge until you are ready for another cup of this deliciousness.

How to Serve

You can enjoy this latte, hot or cold. If you want to make this for more people, follow the 1:1:1 rule, one tablespoon instant coffee, one tablespoon sugar, and one tablespoon hot water to make dalgona foam for each additional serving.
